Stocking Stuffer

Today one of my sweet students gave me a Christmas gift. I received a homemade cheesecake (delicious) and a cute little stocking with a B embroidered on it. Inside the stocking were snack size chocolate bars (she knows me VERY well) and an avocado! She was so excited for me to get to the bottom of the stocking to unveil the avocado. She told me that she gave me an avocado for two reasons.
1. Because I love avocados
2. Because that is how big baby Byrd is this week! How amazing is she?! I almost cried!

I absolutely melted when she told me that. I hope that one day, baby Byrd is that thoughtful when gift giving. What a great kid! It's small things like that that make me love being a teacher! Kids! LOVE THEM!

14 weeks, 5 days

We went to the doctor today. Baby Byrd has a great sounding heart. BB's heart rate was 156 bpm. According to my mother, and old wives tales (which I find completely and utterly UNbelievable, the wives tales, not my mother.) "that's the heartbeat of a little girl." BOLOGNA! We will see in a few weeks when we go in for the sex sonogram. I prefer to call it the sex sonogram as opposed the doctor's title of "anatomy scan." Lame! Sex sonogram sounds way cooler! Anyways, here I am FINALLY with a bump at 14 weeks, 5 days.

Introduction: Bring on the baby

First, let me introduce myself. I am AWB; a wife, daughter, sister, friend, teacher, and soon to be mom. My wonderful and amazing hubby and I are expecting our first baby in June and couldn't be more excited! But along with the excitement, comes the surreal feeling of being responsible for bringing a baby into this world and not messing him or her up!

Let me describe my past with little ones...
Yes, I am a teacher. A 5th grade teacher. I teach kids who can take care of themselves and understand sarcasm (for the most part.) On my first day at school, I told my principal that "kids scare the crap out of me." And by that I meant children of my own. It all started when my mom forced me to babysit in high school. I am the youngest of all of my family, cousins included, so I had not been around babies at all. Diapers were only things I saw on TV and the sound of babies crying made my spine curl. Back to theforced babysitting. I truly think my mom was doing this to ensure that I wouldn't have kids any time in the near future, birth control at its best. The last time I babysat, I was scarred by a two year old who peed in his pants. I was never told that he was not potty trained yet, and had no idea that I was supposed to make sure that he went "potty" every two seconds. Anyways, I unraveled a roll of paper towels over the mess and stepped on it in complete disgust, tapping my foot over the wet towels. I then grabbed kitchen tongs to pick up the now yellow paper towels and tossed them in the trash, wrenching. When my mother came to pick me up later that afternoon, I told her that my babysitting career was over and babies "were not my thing."

And now I am going to have one of my own... All I imagine is me and JWB starring in the movie 'Adventures in Babysitting' for the rest of our lives. It is going to be an amazing and hilarious journey, considering I know nothing about babies. Bring on the baby! :)
